The Samuel R. Myers Foundation for Suicide and Mental Health Awareness is a registered not-for-profit, 501(c)(3), purposed to ensure that public sector employees, such as teachers and law enforcement officials, are trained and educated about mental health issues, so they are better able to distinguish between bad behavior and mental illness. It is also the Foundation’s goal to educate public sector employees on early recognition of suicidal warning signs.
The Samuel R. Myers Foundation for Suicide and Mental Health Awareness will succeed in this purpose by focusing on three major activities:
1. Education and Training – To seek every opportunity to facilitate training of public sector employees in mental health and suicide awareness.
2. Scholarships – To support educational scholarship for high school seniors transitioning into college for accomplishments as student athletes and civic-minded citizens.
3. Public Policy – To support and encourage public policy that will increase the education and training of mental health and suicide awareness among public sector employees.
